[WE ACT]
For the planet.
We Act on Water at every step of our value chain.
Water is our #1 priority as it’s roughly 75% of our total environmental impact*
*Source: average product footprint of a L’Oréal Professionnel product, 2021 data. Water footprint covers freshwater ecotoxicity, freshwater eutrophication, water acidification, marine eutrophication water scarcity.
Where we are today:
-69%: we have launched Water Saver, a water efficient showerhead with up to 69% water savings**, while also lowering the CO2 footprint of salons.
100%: of our products produced in Europe come from a factory that uses “waterloop” technology.
This means that 100% of the water used for industrial processes is cleaned and recycled in a loop on-site for re-use.
**Water flow reduction compared to average salon flow.
Our 2030 goals:
100%: of our factories will use “waterloop” technology to treat & reuse water used for industrial purposes in a closed loop.
-25%: we will reduce the amount of water required to rinse out our products by 25%.
We will assess all our formulas using our environmental test platform to ensure formula innocuity on aquatic ecosystems, whether continental or coastal.
Our 3 pillars: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.
Our packaging circularity strategy revolves around 3 pillars: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.
Where we are today:
1.Reduce: we have reduced the amount of packaging we use in our iNOA color range by 25% and in our Dia Color range by 36% and have launched shampoo refills for consumers and hairstylists.
2.Reuse: we have replaced 550 tons of virgin plastic with recycled plastic.
3.Recycle: we have equipped 3,000 salons globally with recycling systems to divert 100 tons of waste annually.
Our 2030 goals:
1.Reduce by 20% the amount of packaging per gram of formula we use (vs. 2019 baseline)
2.Reuse: 95% of our plastic and aluminum packaging will be made from recycled materials.
3.Recycle and reuse: 100% of our plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable.
We Act on transparency, sharing the environmental scores of our hair care products.
We are committed to not only improving the environmental and social footprint of our products but to also sharing this information with our community so they can make informed choices.
Roughly 75% of the environmental footprint of our haircare products occurs when they are rinsed out.
It’s therefore critical to help our partners make more informed decisions.
All our retail hair care products have been scored on a scale of “A” to “E”.
Products with an “A” are considered “best in class” in terms of its environmental impact in its category.
